ASAUK 2008: The Presence of the Past? Africa in the Twenty-First Century

Preston, UK, United Kingdom

The African Studies Association of the UK (ASAUK) was founded in 1963 to represent individuals and institutions with a professional interest in Africa. It is a non-profit organization open to students, scholars and other experts and has almost 600 members. Through conferences, workshops, a newsletter and a number of prizes and awards, the African Studies Association supports and provides information to the Africanist community. ASAUK works in close cooperation with the Royal African Society (RAS), and members receive the influential quarterly journal African Affairs.

The ASAUK Conference always seeks to facilitate discussions between Africanist scholars who ordinarily would have few opportunities to talk, despite working on similar themes, either because they are working on different geographical areas or within different academic disciplines.

The conference aims to bring together Africanists from all over the world and from various disciplines to discuss the past and current developments in Africa and African Studies. The conference organisers would particularly welcome postgraduate presentations on their current or recently completed research. Papers are invited on all themes relating to the continent, inclusive of time, period and space parameters as well as interdisciplinary perspectives.
